(a drawing I did of once that I thought was supposed to be Skimble...I tried color and it didn't work) |

What is it about Skimbleshanks? To be entirely honest, I don't know why I like him. But something about seeing him performed on Broadway by James Hadley and on the tour by John Sechrist brought up an admiration I didn't know I had. Personally I don't like Geoffrey Garrat's portrayal of Skimble in the CATS Video, not just because he was dubbed but because I think London Skimbles look too stocky and appear to have no flexibility in their arms or torsos whatsoever. Anyway, since I've realized how much I admire the Railway Cat, this is my tribute to him. Maybe if I work on it I can figure out what exactly it is about him that I like... |

If there's one thing definate that I like about Skimbleshanks in general, it's that Reed Jones of the Original Broadway CATS Cast is one of the most awesome singers! Heck, who needs a Scottish accent? |

In my opinion, the transition between Gus and Skimble's song is a little...sudden. And not just on the video, I'm talking about even in live productions with Growltiger. Think about it: Gus's song is sad and quiet as the end comes, and he walks off-stage crying, and suddenly here comes this explosion of cheery, up-beat music. It's funny to watch people in the audience who may have relaxed or even gone to sleep during Gus or Growltiger jerk awake in surprise by the burst of sound. Not that it's a bad thing...even some fans say that Gus's song is a little boring (I certainly don't think so, but...). Little surprises like Skimble's song and the Macavity scares keep things interesting. |
